COVID-19 has had a transformational effect on the healthcare landscape. Healthtech companies have found themselves in high demand at a time when we can’t be physically next to each other and we need new, innovative ways to deliver many aspects of healthcare. We are witnessing a real need for change and virtual reality has stepped up.
Education and VR in healthcare
The importance of education in healthcare is something I picked up on fairly early on in my clinical career, so much so, I studied for a degree in clinical education. So much of healthcare is predicated on teaching and learning; clinicians must teach other clinicians (juniors and peers) and in order to evoke the behaviour change necessary for patients to adhere to treatments, clinicians must find ways to educate their patients on a daily basis. In doing this, much like telemedicine, the role virtual reality (VR) has played in the pandemic should not be underestimated.
