Hospitals start facility to administer vaccines at homeWith covid cases rising steadily in the state, a fear and distrust of hospitals have crept in among citizens. As a result, many parents have been skipping crucial vaccination for their kids which can have a detrimental effect on their future. Now, several hospitals have taken the onus on themselves to ensure that doctors visit the homes personally to give the kids vaccines under the Home (Community) Immunisation Programme.
Under these programmes, a paediatrician and a nurse administers routine paediatric vaccines along with an assessment of vaccination needs for any adults in the family (flu shots and pneumococcal) and post-vaccination counselling by the nurse.
Dr Prakash Vemgal, Director – Neonatology & Paediatrics at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said, “Vaccination is universally administered from birth. In India, we have a National Immunisation Programme (NIP) which is followed across all states and union territories. It is advised to all parents to follow the schedule and get their child vaccinated from birth till 10 years of age.”
