digital marketing promoting unhealthy food and drinks to children – the food institute

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

YouTube kid influencers are marketing junk food from McDonald’s, Coke, and others to children, reported MarketWatch (Oct. 27).In a study published in the journal Pediatrics, researchers analyzed 418 YouTube videos from the five most-watched kid influencers on the platform in 2019 and found that of the 179 videos that featured food or drinks, about 90% promoted unhealthy branded items like fast food. The videos were collectively viewed by over 1 billion people, generating 2.6 million likes in total.“It really was unhealthy brands by a landslide, and that was the most shocking part,” said Marie Bragg, an author of the study and assistant professor of public health nutrition at New York University’s School of Global Public Health and Langone Medical Center. The highest-paid YouTube influencer of 2019 was then 8-year-old Ryan Kaji of Ryan’s World, who earned a whopping $26 million in advertisements, sponsored posts, and product placements, according to the study. In one of Ryan’s videos, which received 46 million views, he wears a hat with a McDonald’s logo pretending to be a cashier and making cheeseburgers. Y Combinator’s Startup School Introduces New Course For Future Founders

y combinator’s startup school introduces new course for future founders

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

For future founders, Y Combinator’s Startup School curriculum wasn’t quite right for them. It was intended for founders who are already working on building their companies.
Subscribe to the Crunchbase Daily
Now, the prestigious startup accelerator is expanding its reach to people who want to start a company in the future with its new course: Startup School for Future Founders.
YC was always about opening up to founders who weren’t part of the traditional startup ecosystem, and Startup School was built on the same idea, according to the school’s director Kyle Corbitt.
“It’s really about bringing this content, curriculum and our knowledge to an even wider group of people,” Corbitt said. “It was an obvious next step as we’re trying to move further upstream and make this opportunity available to more people.”
Startup School is designed for active, early-stage founders who are working on building their companies. More than 140,000 founders have gone through the program to date, and it’s also helped many of their startups make it to Y Combinator’s accelerator program–just over 50 percent of the companies in YC’s batch that just finished came from Startup School, according to Corbitt.

Podcasts: Your New Content Marketing Engine

podcasts: your new content marketing engine

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

Have you ever wondered if using your company’s blog as the engine of your content marketing strategy is an outdated method? I’m here to tell you it is.

So, hear me out. Brand blogging blew up in the early 2000s when websites became richer and the internet became more mainstream. This was 15 or 20 years ago, and present-day marketing teams are still turning to the same tactics used back then!
Today’s audience has higher expectations. Social media is ingrained in everyday practices. Podcasts are on the up and up. Still, the same old playbook established by yesteryear’s marketers is what modern marketers are following. It’s time to ditch that outdated playbook and provide an experience that engages your audience before they leave you for one of your competitors.
You need to let conversations lead your content marketing efforts rather than ruminating over keywords and creating less-than engaging copy to rank in search. One of the best ways to lead with conversations is through a brand podcast. Not only will this allow you to produce more content, but you’ll also see an increase in engagement and conversions.
Allow me to elaborate.

5 spooky European startups helping you celebrate Halloween this year

5 spooky european startups helping you celebrate halloween this year

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

Halloween, or ‘All Hallows eve’’, goes all the way back to a pagan festival called ‘Samhain’. Although it traditionally marked a changing of the seasons, some observers also believed it was a time when the boundary between worlds became especially traversable.
Many European citizens will be confined indoors this year for Halloween, taking festivities like door-to-door ‘trick or treating’ or activities like apple bobbing off the table. Instead, scaled-down indoor entertainment could be the only option, as it was during the hard lockdown. This could act as a further boost for the gaming sector, which has recently gained renewed attention from their regular players, as well as new fans hoping to pass the time spent indoors.
With this in mind, we thought it was apt to bring you some little known and spooky games created by European startups.
Darkside Detective – Founded in 2015, the Irish startup Spooky Doorway created Darkside Detective, an old school micro gaming experience with cute pixelated graphics and a charming story. Darkside Detective is a classic ‘point and click’ adventure game, where Detective McQueen and Officer Dooley investigate 6 bizarre cases. The game has a unique sense of humour and has already built up a solid following of 10 …

Many of today’s most successful software companies, from Atlassian and Datadog to Zoom, subscribe to the bottom-up SaaS go-to-market model. In this model, the user purchases software directly from a website, without ever speaking to a sales person. The product essentially sells itself.
The bottom-up model has a few key benefits: Companies spend dramatically less on sales than their peers, allowing them to invest more in product; they can sustain hypergrowth for longer because they are not as reliant on raw sales headcount to win business; and they tend to be more profitable in the long run, leading …
