HAMPTON, N.H. – The open source proposition has been embedded in Red Hat’s roots since the company’s founding in 1993 and has since remained at the core of its guiding principles, with Linux operating system (OS) at the heart of all its innovations. Vendor loyalty and clearly charted paths were the mantras many companies operated on for years, while “digital transformation” was barely on an enterprise’s short-term road map.
Then a decade ago, cloud adoption surged, creating the impetus to embrace more agile and flexible development models, and open source technologies emerged.

While business models centered on open source software have proved challenging for many, Red Hat’s pre-established culture and leadership around open source communities solidifies the Raleigh-based Red Hat brand, paving the way for rapid scale, as the company has captured over 90% of the Fortune 500 as clients and in 2019 became the first open source-defined company to reach $3 billion in annual revenue.

The 1 Thing You Should Know Before You Buy Amazon @themotleyfool #stocks $AMZN $MSFT

the 1 thing you should know before you buy amazon @themotleyfool #stocks $amzn $msft

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) stock, up 33.2% since the start of the year, has been one of the market winners in 2020. Investors flocked to buy the shares as consumers flocked to the retail giant to buy essentials during the coronavirus pandemic. When most of us think of Amazon and its revenue potential, we think of this demand for general merchandise or groceries on the e-commerce site — or even new signups to its Prime membership program.
But a big part of Amazon’s revenue growth has to do with its cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS). The one thing you should know before buying Amazon shares is this: AWS operating income made up about 77% of Amazon’s overall operating income in the first quarter. That’s up from a 50% share of overall income in the same period a year ago.
Even if AWS’ percentage contribution to operating income doesn’t move any higher, it still will remain a key profit driver. Why? Let’s take a look at AWS’ market share and the demand for cloud computing services.

africa’s cloud computing industry is set to grow as data adoption rises | techcabal

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

The African connectivity and cloud computing market is generating a lot of interest and deals as players position themselves for the boom in data services on the continent.

Over the last four years, international cloud companies have rushed to develop data centres on the African continent. IBM announced its first Africa data centre in 2016.

In the first half of 2019, Huawei started construction on two data centres in South Africa with further plans to expand to Nigeria and Kenya. A month later, Microsoft launched its first Azure data centre in Cape Town and Johannesburg, both in South Africa. In February 2019, the US company also signed an agreement with Telecom Egypt to develop and expand Microsoft cloud facilities to the region.

In April 2019, Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched three data centre operations in Cape Town, its first ever African region.

Beyond these international players, African cloud companies are also making strategic deals across the continent.

In 2018, Econet-owned Liquid Telecom signed an agreement to invest $50 million to develop data centres and cloud services in Egypt.

According to the African Data Centre Association (ADCA), 20 new data centre facilities will come online across Africa by the end of 2020.

With more than 20 years of experience, Margaret enjoys developing and applying human-centred methods in her work. She aims to empower organisations with impactful and sustainable transformation to help them realise their full potential.

The coronavirus pandemic has magnified the importance of cloud-based technologies in major, life-altering ways and ushered in a new paradigm. Before COVID-19, experts projected the worldwide public cloud services market would jump by 17% this year, reaching $266.4 million. Software as a service is the largest segment within that market, but the second-largest — infrastructure as a service — claims the fastest growth rate.

A number of factors are driving businesses to choose the cloud as the standard for applications, data, and storage. They migrate to gain flexible computing power, to lower the cost of backup/recovery, or to turn capital expenses into operational costs. Beyond any single benefit, however, companies migrate to facilitate organisational change in ways that only the cloud can offer.

Take artificial intelligence as just one example. Companies that have already implemented AI saw an uptick in revenue, and 44% experienced a reduction in costs. Executives across industries …
