lynx season opens july 26 with flurry of tough games

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

The Lynx should have a very good idea where their 2020 season is going very early.

The Lynx open the season Sunday, July 26 at 11 a.m. against Connecticut, a nationally televised game on ESPN that will be part of the network’s season-opening weekend coverage. The league opener is a day earlier on July 25.

For the Lynx, it will be the start of a difficult first week of play in a shortened, 22-game season in which every game will have more importance attached to it.

That four-game stretch includes two games vs. the Sun, which played in the WNBA finals last season. The Lynx will play the Sun on the 26th, Seattle — the 2018 champion which, with Breanna Stewart back, is one of the league favorites — on July 28, Chicago on July 30 and the Sun on August 1.

The season is taking place at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., without fans in attendance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 22-game slate includes two games against each of the other 11 teams in the league. The games will come rapid-fire, though there will be no games for the Lynx on back-to-back nights.

The two games vs. Connecticut will give Minnesota native Rachel Banham a …

virtual reality unveiled in bossier city may transform b-52 pilot training – bossiernow

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

A virtual reality tool, released during a milestone demonstration of its capabilities last week at StrikeWerx in Bossier City, is one step closer to potentially transforming the way B-52 Stratofortress student pilots train for combat.

The Virtual Reality Procedures Trainer may even change the entire Air Force bomber community’s approach to training.

The VRPT is the brainchild of Maj. Mark Budgeon, currently assigned to Air Force Global Strike Command, Maj. Brandon Wolf, 307th Operations Support Squadron and Maj. Justin Stephenson, 11th Bomb Squadron Chief Pilot and Chief of Innovations.

Revolutionizing the training process

“Our adversaries are getting much better, much faster,” said Budgeon. “This system has the potential to revolutionize the entire training process and make our student graduates better.”

The three Airmen teamed up with King Crow Studios, a virtual reality training company from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to develop the trainer as part of a larger learning management system that uses virtual reality with an embedded instructor to teach and grade B-52 student pilots.

Members of the 307th Bomb Wing, the 2nd Bomb Wing and Air Force Global Strike Command watched as a demonstrator from King Crow Studios put on virtual reality goggles to access a 360-degree, virtual …

Belgium makes masks mandatory in gaming establishments

belgium makes masks mandatory in gaming establishments

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

The Belgian Ministry of Security and the Interior has issued a decree making the wearing of masks in the country’s gambling venues compulsory. The decree stated that a declining infection rate made it possible to relax social distancing measures, but due to the ongoing and ever-evolving nature of the situation, it was necessary to adjust protocols and processes.
This, it explained, means that for all citizens above the age of 12, it is now necessary to cover noses and mouths while in public places.
The new rules cover venues such as cinemas, concert halls, places of worship, museums and shops, as well as gambling venues such as casinos, betting shops and gaming halls. Citizens that do not comply will face criminal charges.
In addition, all casinos and gaming halls must remain closed from 1am for an uninterrupted period of at least five hours. They can remain open from their normal opening times until 1am, unless the local authority in a region where the venue is based requires it to close earlier.
This, the decree said, was to bring the opening protocols in line with those in place for drinking establishments and restaurants, and to avoid “uncontrolled gatherings” at night.

Xbox Boss Implies PS5 Exclusives Are ‘Counter to What Gaming Is About’

xbox boss implies ps5 exclusives are ‘counter to what gaming is about’

BEGIN ARTICLE PREVIEW:

For the first time in a while, Sony and Microsoft are adopting different strategies. Prior to announcing nine PlayStation 5 exclusives during a recent reveal broadcast, boss Jim Ryan reiterated that the organisation “believes in generations”, adding: “We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console […] it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not.”
Microsoft, meanwhile, is adopting a different approach with Xbox Series X; with its Game Pass subscription taking centre stage, it’ll continue to release first-party titles on the aging Xbox One for a year at least. Locking games to a particular piece of hardware, according to boss Phil Spencer, is “completely counter to what gaming is about”.
Speaking with Games Industry.biz, he explained: “We should applaud the work that is going on with the [PS5’s SSD], and the work that is going on with audio, to pick some of the areas that Jim [Ryan] and Mark [Cerny] and the stuff that [PlayStation] is focused on. We should applaud load times and fidelity of scenes and frame rate and input latency, and all of these things that we’ve focused on with the next generation. But that …
