How to Change 5G Settings on iPhone 12 to Save Data and Battery

how to change 5g settings on iphone 12 to save data and battery

Apple’s iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are the first iPhones to be released with 5G connectivity, and there are several new settings related to 5G that you should be aware of. By default, when you set up a new ‌iPhone 12‌ or 12 Pro, it activates an Auto 5G mode that only turns on 5G data when it won’t significantly reduce battery life. You can turn this off so that your iPhone uses 5G all the time, and there are also data modes to choose from. This how to shows you where the new settings are and explains what they mean.
Turn on 5G All the Time or Activate 4G
Getting to your specific cellular settings might look a bit different depending on your carrier, but these general steps should work for accessing your Voice and Data settings.

Open up Settings.
Tap on “Cellular.”
Tap on your cellular plan or Cellular Data Options.
Tap on Voice & Data.

From the Voice & Data menu, you’ll see three options: 5G On, 5G Auto, and LTE. 5G Auto, the default setting, uses 5G only when 5G won’t significantly reduce battery life.
This appears to be Apple’s Data Saver Mode that’s meant to swap the ‌iPhone‌’s connection to …

The iPhone 12’s 5G Speeds Come with a Cost

the iphone 12’s 5g speeds come with a cost

If you want to enjoy the fastest 5G speeds on your shiny new iPhone 12, you might want to consider investing in a battery case or external battery pack, as early tests have shown that you could be taking a pretty big hit on battery life when sending and receiving data over a 5G network.

In fact, according to testing conducted by Tom’s Guide, using 5G continually could result in a potential reduction of two hours or more in battery life as compared to surfing purely at 4G LTE speeds.

In fact, the tests revealed that an iPhone 12 managed to run for ten hours and 23 minutes (10:23) on 4G, but dropped to just under eight-and-a-half hours (8:25) on 5G.

While the iPhone 12 Pro seemed to offer almost an hour of additional battery life overall — 11:24 on 4G LTE — it also saw more of a drop when using 5G, down to 9:06, or nearly 2.5 hours less. However, it’s also worth noting that the iPhone 12 was tested on AT&T’s 5G network, while the iPhone 12 Pro was tested on T-Mobile, so the potentially differing power requirements of running the cellular hardware at different radio frequencies may have accounted for much of the discrepancy here.

Comparing AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon’s unlimited 5G wireless plans for iPhone 12 | AppleInsider

comparing at&t, t-mobile, and verizon’s unlimited 5g wireless plans for iphone 12 | appleinsider

The three major US carriers all offer “unlimited” 5G plans for the many iPhone 12 owners set to enjoy faster speeds. AppleInsider cuts through the noise to compare plans and help you find the best wireless network for your new iPhone. Keep in mind that “unlimited” has caveats. Every carrier plan includes the possibility of throttling your data to slower speeds after you reach a certain level of usage. Additionally, some plans have limits like lower-quality video streaming or slower hotspots after hitting a separate tethering cap. Each plan also discounts its per-line pricing when you add additional numbers to your plan. The three carriers each have subscription-based extras to lure you towards their service and entice you into opting for a pricier tier. For example, T-Mobile bundles Netflix with some family plans, AT&T uses HBO to lure you in, and Verizon adds Disney services and Apple Music to its most expensive package. Let’s take a look at each network’s options and the extras that go along with them to help you pick the best plan for your new iPhone 12. AT&T for iPhone 12

LTE & 5G for Critical Communications Market 2020 Key Players, Demand, Trend, Share, Size, Status, Growth, Opportunities, Challenges, Strategies and Forecasts to 2030

lte & 5g for critical communications market 2020 key players, demand, trend, share, size, status, growth, opportunities, challenges, strategies and forecasts to 2030

PUNE, India, Oct. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — ReportsnReports added LTE & 5G for Critical Communications Market 2020 – 2030 – Opportunities, Challenges, Strategies & Forecasts research report to its online database. For nearly a century, the critical communications industry has relied on narrowband LMR (Land Mobile Radio) networks for mission-critical voice and low-speed data services. Over time, these systems have evolved from relatively basic analog radios to digital communications technologies, such as P25 (Project 25) and TETRA, to provide superior voice quality, end-to-end encryption and other advanced features. However, due to their inherent bandwidth and design limitations, even the most sophisticated digital LMR networks are unable to support mobile broadband and data-driven industrial IoT applications that have become vital for public safety, military, utilities, transportation, oil and gas, mining and other segments of the critical communications industry.
The 3GPP-defined LTE and 5G NR standards have emerged as the leading candidates to fill this void. Over the last decade, a plethora of dedicated, hybrid commercial-private and MVNO-based 3GPP networks have been deployed to deliver critical communications broadband capabilities – in addition to the use of commercial mobile operator networks – for application scenarios as diverse as PTT group communications, real-time mobile video surveillance, AR/VR (Augmented & Virtual Reality), wirelessly connected …
