Ohio reports 7,863 new coronavirus cases, 29 new deaths: Saturday update

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported Saturday afternoon that the state has 7,863 new coronavirus cases.This brings the total number of cases to 343,286, which includes confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases.A total of 5,984 people have died from coronavirus, up 29 from Friday.Ohio set another daily record for reported coronavirus cases on Friday, with 8,808 cases being logged.These numbers do not include results from more than 12,000 antigen tests that the state is double-checking. There are more antigen tests being used statewide as the federal government procured millions of tests.The dashboard on Saturday confirmed that the numbers are incomplete and thousands of reports are pending review.The antigen tests are not as accurate and are known to produce false positives and negatives.Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine tested positive in an antigen test in August. It later turned out to be inaccurate.Confirmed cases are defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as people who have tested positive.
