The UK Conservative party has overhauled its leadership election rules to try to prevent too many candidates from standing and reduce the length of the race to succeed Theresa May. The executive of the 1922 Committee of MPs decided on Tuesday that the party should raise the number of MP nominations required to stand in the contest from two to eight.
