SANTA ANA (CBSLA) — Orange County on Monday reported a record number of new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths.
The county announced 1,422 new coronavirus diagnoses, raising the cumulative total to 71,116 and leaving the death toll at 1,554.
The alarming increases in cases prompted officials to join other leaders statewide in discouraging holiday get-togethers and other gatherings over concern that those events could further spread the virus.
Officials said the new 1,422 coronavirus cases are from over a period of several days. The largest single-day total so far during the pandemic was on July 7, when 1,060 cases were recorded.
Hospitalizations are also on the rise in Orange County, with the number increasing from 380 on Sunday to 428 on Monday in O.C.
The number of intensive care unit patients has also risen from 91 to 105, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

7:30 PM ETThe SEC has shuffled its football schedule for this week, resulting in Vanderbilt playing at Missouri on Saturday instead of the Commodores’ originally scheduled home game against Tennessee and the Tigers’ originally scheduled home game against Arkansas.The SEC said in a statement that the Arkansas-Missouri game was postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Arkansas football program, consistent with SEC COVID-19 management requirements.The Vanderbilt-Missouri game is a rescheduling of a game postponed on Oct. 17. The game will be played at noon ET Saturday and televised by the SEC Network. Missouri also had its Nov. 14 game against Georgia postponed.The Tennessee-Vanderbilt game was postponed for the purpose of facilitating the rescheduling of the Vanderbilt-Missouri game, according to the SEC. The Royal Opera House is set to present “Current, Rising,” described as a hyper-reality opera which comes in collaboration between ROH’s Audience Labs, Figment Productions, and Royal Holloway, University of London.
The work, developed by a female-led team and funded by UK Research and Innovation, is a 15-minute opera experience that blends virtual reality with a multisensory set. “Current, Rising” is directed by Netia Jones, composed by Samantha Fernando, and designed by Jo Scotcher. The work will feature soprano Anna Dennis.
The work will run from December 19, 2020, until January 17, 2021.
